It's a big weekend for the Whitehorse Curling Club.

The club will host the Arctic Winter Games trials, which will see junior skip Sarah Koltun try to lead her team to a second spot at the Games in March, and the Yukon Men's Championships.

The AWG trials are being hosted by the curling club and the Yukon Curling Association. The action starts Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and continues Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

One boys' and one girls' team will be chosen to represent the Yukon in Grande Prairie, Alta., from March 6-13, out of four participating teams.

The four teams will play a best two out of three series over the weekend for the chance to become one of the Yukon AWG junior curling teams.

On the boys side, the newer team made up of skip Shawn Kitchen with teammates, Joe Wallingham, Brayden Klassen, Bailey Muir-Cressman and Liam Finnigan will take on seasoned junior skip Thomas Scoffin, and his team consisting of Mitch Young, Andrew Scoffin and Caleb Steele Lane. Team Kitchen is coached by Dean Klassen, while Team Scoffin has coach Gordon Moffatt.

Sport Yukon's 2009 Junior Team of the Year, Team Koltun will take on Team Sian Molloy, with her team Bailey Horte, Kelsey Meger and Kelly Mahoney. Team Molloy is coached by Rhonda Horte.

Koltun's team is made up of Chelsea Duncan, Linea Eby and Jenna Duncan, and coached by Lindsay Moldowan.

The two girls' teams have been playing together for a few seasons already.

The Yukon Men's Championships will be a showdown between four Whitehorse teams in a double round-robin format. The championships started Thursday, and continue until Sunday.

The tournament will determine two Yukon men's teams that will go to the challenge the Northwest Territories in early February at the Whitehorse Curling Club.

The winner from that weekend will represent the territories at the Tim Horton's Brier in Halifax, N.S. on March 6-14.

The four teams that will be participating are led by Jon Solberg, Chad Cowan, Pat Paslawski and Gord Zealand.

The Whitehorse Curling Club welcomes the public to come out and watch the great weekend of curling.

Draws begin this afternoon at 3 p.m., Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m.
