Atkinson top Yukoner in Skagway fish derby

The 2006 Pat Moore Memorial Game Fish Derby was held in Skagway over two weekends, August 4-6 and August 11-13.

The 2006 Pat Moore Memorial Game Fish Derby was held in Skagway over two weekends, August 4-6 and August 11-13.

Over $10,000 in cash and prizes was up for grabs in the event's prize pool. In 2005, Yukon residents won more than $1,000 in special prizes.

This year, Whitehorse's William Atkinson won the prize for largest king salmon caught by a Yukoner, at 22.2 lbs.

Atkinson's catch was also the second largest overall and he won a daily prize for the largest salmon caught on August 4.
