With the summer season fast approaching, Athletics Yukon will be holding an Athletics Expo at the Old Firehall on Wednesday night, from 5 to 8 p.m.

"It's a great opportunity to get kick started for the summer season,” said Ben Yu Schott, board member with Athletics Yukon.

"Sometimes people don't know about all the great events and organizations that are going on.

"It's really just to gather everyone together and remind us that the summer is upon us and there's lots of great activities to do.”

Aside from highlighting summer events, the expo will also include a gear swap, refreshments and three running workshops from Yukon coach Don White.

The three sessions will run for an hour each, beginning at 5 p.m. with the beginner class.

White will then hold a session called "Getting Better” for those that have some experience with running and competitive walking before ending the night with an advanced class.

Points of discussion will include proper fueling, gait, footwear and how to establish and maximize your training regime.

The event is being put on with the help of local businesses AirNorth, Coast Mountain Sports, Sportslife, Intersport and The Studio.

The expo will also feature representatives from a wide range of community organizations such as the Klondike Road Relay and the Yukon Mountain Marathon.

Yu Schott said the evening would be informative and beneficial to everyone from seasoned locals to those new into town.

"It's just a great opportunity to learn about, and get prepared, for a busy summer season,” he said.
