About 60 players showed up for the soccer trials for the 2010 Arctic Winter Games held this past weekend at the Canada Games Centre.

Organizers were searching for girls and boys to round out five teams; juvenile male (U-16), junior male (U-18), juvenile female, junior female and intermediate female (U-20).

The 60 players who showed up were short-listed down to 12 players per age category. The teams that were formed will now practice together until each team is broken down to nine players.

The players participated in a practice and had a few scrimmage games while evaluators helped the coaches decide which players to put on the team.

Yukon Soccer Association head coach Jake Hanson says he was really impressed with the players that came out from the communities. Two youth made the team from Pelly Crossing, one from Mayo and one from Dawson.

Organizers of the Yukon Soccer Association is still looking for players for the girls' intermediate team.
