Alexandra Gabor is bringing back another bronze medal for Canada after her two World Cup of Swimming events in Stockholm and Berlin.
Gabor took the bronze in the 200 metre freestyle, her best event, in Berlin over the weekend. She set another Canadian 15-17 age group record, a new B.C. open and 15-17 age group record with her time of 1:54.97.
"These last two World Cup meets have been some of the fastest in history, with 25 World records being demolished between the two stops on the circuit, nine in Stockholm and 16 in Berlin,” said Gustav Gabor, media liaison for the Whitehorse Glacier Bears.
Gabor has now broken 66 B.C. and 13 Canadian records. Forty of those have been achieved since March of this year.
Gabor raced in the eighth lane in Berlin, and was unable to keep an eye on her competition.
"I couldn't see the field too well from my lane so I just tried to focus on my own race,” said Gabor from Berlin, who won the Yukon's first-ever gold medal at the Canada Summer Games, this past summer. "I didn't realize that I was behind most of the way. The only thing I was thinking was "go”. The ending hurt a lot but I didn't want to regret anything at the end.”
Gabor was withdrawn by her World Cup coach Tom Johnson from the 50 metre freestyle to rest up for the 200 metre event, which seemed to pay off with her medal.
