With 40 teams registered and around 175 participants, this year's All Northern Pond Hockey Tournament had more than a few memorable moments.
Teams competed on eight different ice surfaces at Chadburn Lake with the top two teams in each division advancing to the playoff round.
This year had perfect weather for being outside for a prolonged period of time, however the warmer temperature was a little harder on the ice than the players.
"It was a little bit warm," said event organizer Sonny Patch. "It's kind of a catch-22 because it can't be too cold to stand around outside all day, but it can't be too warm for the ice to be soft. So this year it was a great day for hanging around because it was warm, but the ice was a bit soft because of the high temperatures."
The playoff round was a single elimination and was a random draw for the top 16 teams.
As a result of the high number of teams competing, games were limited to two 10 minutes periods and were self-refed.
Despite the reduced time period, the event still lasted all day, starting at 9:30 a.m. and lasting to around 4:30 p.m.
The final game was played between French Toast and the Frozen Fours. In a hard fought battle, French Toast emerged as the winners and were awarded with the championship jerseys.
The jerseys had the tournaments logo, a pair of hockey sticks crossed over top of the outline of the Yukon on them as well as the word "Champs" written on the back.
Members on the Frozen Fours also received jerseys; however, instead of having "Champs" written on the back, it said "Chumps."
Additional prizes were given out for the best costumes.
Patch said the tournament had great support from the community, which included sponsors such as Yukon Brewing, Terra Firma and Threads. The City of Whitehorse was also really helpful.
