There were plenty of highlights for both the Yukon and Alaskan table tennis teams that competed this past weekend at Whitehorse Elementary School.

The second Alaska-Yukon Challenge featured individual and team competition for both novice and more experienced players.

The competition used a handicap system, which gave each player an individual ranking. For each 50 additional points one player had over another, he or she would have to start at minus one in a match.

Malkolm Boothroyd took top honours in the open singles division, winning a close match against Dave DeMay.

Marcus Mager, who had a points rating of 700 won the novice singles event over Rebecca Johnson, who was ranked at 600.

In the team event, Yukoners Kevin Murphy and Ryan Bachli, who were the highest rank squad in the open category at 1560. Fitting enough, the team was called the Unstoppables and ended up winning the category.

The novice team category was won by Alaskan squad the Flashers, who included players Marcus Mager and Jerry Smith.
