A plea to bring Sidney Crosby back to Canada
We finally got our gold Canada.
We finally got our gold Canada.
After a disappointing finish in the World Juniors, when the U.S. beat Canada, we finally have the sweetest revenge – Olympic gold.
When Zack Parise scored the U.S.'s second goal to tie up the game, there was a collective "d'oh!” around the country, as we all felt we had the game in the bank.
I'll never forget the next goal – and I'm sure Sidney Crosby won't either.
In that one second he became a national hero, more so than he already was.
Now that my personal hockey dreams have been met with two gold medals in men's and women's hockey, I must wish the Canadian sledge hockey team good luck as well – we need to top off these Olympics with three hockey medals.
My final hockey-wish is that one of the many Canadian NHL teams please rally to get Sidney for the next NHL season.
We need our hockey hero at home. I would prefer him to be paired with Roberto Luongo, if it is at all possible.
Besides the hockey Sunday, I must say my second favourite Olympic moment happened, during the closing ceremonies, when we made fun of ourselves as a country with the ode to the beaver and moose.
We showed our collective sense of humor in a way that rolled all the Canadian clichés up into one giant ball and threw them at the face of the world.
I enjoyed William Shatner's monologue on what he is most proud of as a Canadian, and felt this ceremony represented us as a nation better than the opening ones.
Not that we are the cliché, it is that we are able to laugh at what the world thinks of us, and that's truly what being Canadian means to me.
