It was one of the hottest days of spring so far Tuesday evening, and it provided some prime conditions for the weekly Intersport Fun Run/Walk.

The great weather – before a storm blew into Whitehorse later in the evening – saw 55 runners turn up to record their time at the weekly event.

The race started at 6 p.m., with 2010 Olympic timing official Marg White working the stopwatch.

Participating were families, a team of women's soccer players and an assortment of runners and walkers from all levels of fitness.

Even a pre-schooler was in attendance. The runners and walkers challenged a variety of distances up to 11-kilometres.

Twenty-year-old John Parry provided the biggest challenge to the five-km runners, finishing a full 45 seconds ahead of the next runner. Parry, a NCAA cross-country skier, finished in 18:03.

Finishing in second behind Parry was his father, Bill Parry, at 18:49.

Tom Ullyett, who spent the weekend participating in two separate fun runs, was third with a time of 20:03, followed by Doug Mayer at 20:16 and Brian MacDonald at 22:12.

In the women's five-km, Brittany Smith came in first in 21:09. Smith is also a university cross-country skier out of Carleton University.

Smith was just under four minutes ahead of the next female runner in her distance.

Carolyn Steele Lane was second in a time of 25 minutes exactly.

In third was 19-year-old Coralie Ullyett at 25:35, followed by Wendy Tayler at 25:55, and Barbara Scheck at 26:01.

The walkers took the 11-km distance, with Tanya Astika powering ahead for the win in 1:25.27. She was closely followed by friend Bonnie Love. Both walkers participated in the World Masters Games in the fall of 2009, where each earned medals for race walking.

Arlene Ogden was third a second after Love, in 1:25.29.
