At 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Yukoners will drop, cover and hold on for the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.

Millions of people worldwide will participate in the same drill, learning how to stay safe during an earthquake.

The Yukon Emergency Measures Organization is hosting earthquake preparedness activities and learning opportunities all week long.

Until Friday, Yukoners can learn more about earthquakes, seismic activity in the Yukon and how to prepare for an emergency. Yukon residents can also enter a contest to win individual or school prizes.

Today, Yukoners can tune into a virtual workshop with a seismologist about earthquakes and the Yukon.

On Wednesday, Yukon Emergency Measures Organization staff will deliver a virtual workshop about earthquake preparedness and how to do a ShakeOut drill.

Yukoners can register for the Zoom events at https://www.yukon.ca/shakeout.

Shakers can happen at any time of day or night, any time of year. Most of the Yukon is in a medium- to high-risk earthquake zone.

During most earthquakes, you will reduce your chance of injury if you drop, cover and hold on, the Yukon government said Monday.

A massive earthquake is coming to Yukon. It will rip through Whitehorse. We will need more than drills, we will need survival equipment and we want to know what equipment is essential, and that equipment will need to be accessible to seniors in Yukon Housing Units which are on the direct fault line.

@choking a little

You making every single facet of life be about blaming the liberals is a very poor excuse for a personality.
Maybe find another hobby?

The liberals suck. But your blatant Liberal Derangement Syndrome sucks even more. Get ahold of yourself. It’s an earthquake drill. It has nothing to do with liberalism. Good god man.

Like in all emergency planning, follow the 72 hour rule: To be independent and self-sustaining for 72 hours (that's a long weekend). Because it will take at least that long for the emergency service agencies to get a response plan drafted up based on priorities following the shaker and each event is different so a new plan must be created for each of them.

"drop, cover and hold on" 10:20 is during my coffee break. All I'll be doing is holding on to my coffee cup.

We are at the tail end of the San Andreas fault. It can't hurt anything, and may someday be a huge help. And some after the quake info would be helpful too.. where to meet family, get food, water. The essential things.

This is much more of a threat to Yukon than any climate change. The clay cliffs will come down.
