Michael Healey couldn’t believe his eyes when he scanned his Lotto Max ticket and discovered he’d won $1 million in the June 18 draw.
He said this week he had to double- and triple-check his ticket before believing he was a Maxmillions-winning millionaire.
“I checked the ticket on the Lotto Spot! app a couple days after the draw,” he said. “I was in complete disbelief – that’s a lot of money!”
Healey is the third Yukoner to take home a lottery prize of $1 million (or more) since the start of this year.
He said he has a couple of ideas for his windfall, including paying off some bills, helping his family financially, and one day buying a boat.
“I’ve wanted to buy a new boat for a while,” he said. “Now it’s no problem, which feels great.
“The best part about winning is the fact that it’s going to make life easier,” he added. “That’s a dream come true!”
Healey purchased his winning ticket at the Trails North Car & Truck Stop on the Alaska Highway in Whitehorse. His Maxmillions-winning numbers were 16, 17, 24, 28, 30, 31 and 38.
Healey is one of 25 ticketholders in the Western Canada Lottery Corp.’s region to become a millionaire during Lotto Max’s longest-ever consecutive jackpot roll (17 draws, from April 23 to June 21).

Mike's a nice guy. Always nice to me when I was a kid when he worked for government. Well deserved win.

I won $150 on the Lotto once and used it to buy a ladder, definitely not to exciting as far as lotto purchases go. A cool million bucks and a beautiful new boat sounds a lot better! Hope you come up with an awesome Lotto winning themed name for your boat!

If I had a million dollars, I’d be rich! Considering inflation it’s not quite the same as when Barenaked Ladies first sang that tune but it’s still pretty cool. Congratulations!

June 18th and we are just getting the news now. I think news was a lot faster in 1898.
