Yukon Party promises not to raise taxes

A new Yukon Party government would keep life affordable for families through no tax increases, says Premier Darrell Pasloski.

By Whitehorse Star on October 11, 2016

A new Yukon Party government would keep life affordable for families through no tax increases, says Premier Darrell Pasloski.

The party would also “stand up for Yukon against a costly carbon tax,” he said in a statement last Friday.

A re-elected Yukon Party would also “continue its proven track record of living within our means through prudent financial management and preventing net debt while meeting our election platform commitments,” he said.

“Yukoners already pay enough in taxes and the Yukon Party is committed to keeping life affordable while growing the territory’s economy and creating jobs,” said Pasloski.

“That’s why a re-elected Yukon Party government will implement no tax increases and continue to fight against a carbon tax in Yukon.

“By keeping taxes low and managing our finances responsibly, we ensure that Yukoners keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets and that government is able to provide the services our families rely on,” added Pasloski.

The federal Parliamentary Budget Officer did an analysis of the impacts of a carbon tax and found it would likely raise the price of gasoline by 24 cents a litre, the premier pointed out.

He said an average family of four now pays up to $777 less in taxes compared to 2011.

Life is going to be very affordable when the conservative party loses and get their monstrous severance pay outs, so gross.

The YP is not going to increase taxes yet they promise to build an unwanted, unneeded, 8 million dollar soccer stadium. There's a good deal of fairy magic required here to believe this. I say put this to a referendum so it can be finally put to bed as an unaffordable delusional dream.
Possibly the election will be that referendum and frivolous spending will cost the Yukon Party dearly.
P.S. I've seen one person all summer using the running track at FHC.

What a joke, the yukon party is the clear and present danger. They don’t care about any families but their own. They’re taking from yukon children and giving themselves a big fat severance pay out. What is more outrageous is that the tax payer is now paying for Currie Dixon to be the yukon party campaign chair WHILE HE'S STILL BEING PAID BY TAX PAYERS. It is sickening.

@JJ
Nothing has changed with the PUG amount for seniors unless your net taxable income is more than $40k. A senior who earns more than that shouldn't have problems with a slight reduction in the PUG.

The Golf Course Party plans to spend a gazillion buckazoids on soccer fields that can be used 5 months a year
they had better NOT be raising my taxes.

Dearest "I find it interesting" ... The Pharmacist and the Whitehorse Midget Mafia have been waging a scorched earth campaign the last three years by spending down a $70,000,000 surplus to zero. They have seen the hand writing on the wall for a long time and by cleaning out the bank account have made sure that the next government will have to make cuts and/or raise taxes. Thus becoming extremely unpopular.

Their long game is not to win this election but the next one.

The usual misdirection from the Lawsuit Party.

HEY - DARRELL - We need you to tell us what you plan to do with THE PEEL WATERSHED

I find it interesting you have 30 liberals and NDP on Oct 12, 2016 at 11:36 am

supporting less funding for the Yukon, less social spending, less funding for First Nations.
What do Yukoners think of the Liberals and NDP.
Plus both parties will raise taxes and take the Yukon into debt.
Burn up ever dollar of public money on sand box investments.

They'll really say anything to get in. But, how do you hold them accountable for their "promises"?

okay a few facts before "No new Taxes" signs go up around the Yukon on Oct 12, 2016 at 9:11 am

83% of every dollar the Yukon government spends comes from federal coffers. This year the Formula Financing, Canada Health and Social Transfers amounts to $947,000,000- yes that is 947 Million dollars.

So YTG has not raised taxes...well that is because we get a whole whack of money every year and that amount has increased by $200 million over the last 5 years.

To think we had our Senator and Premier Pasloski actually complaining about cutbacks to federal transfers this spring, even though the actual story was a reduction in the rate of increase of these very same transfers...

Would be hard to raise taxes after running the biggest budget in the Yukon history for the last two years.

There's that crazy man spreading anti liberal again.
Wilf, YP have no plan but to hope commodity prices go up again. Time for some shake up to better allocate those transfer dollars. Go Liberals!
Oh and as for the gas tax boogeyman talk running rampant, it was all agreed to by the Cons years ago, but they didn't have the jam to implement.

How will the shortfall be made up then? The federal liberals have already said that Heath care transfers will be the same, or reduced for the next fiscal year.
So, no tax increase, and less federal dollars, but, no more debt added ??
Where will the cuts be then? They have to have program cuts if there is less Money.
I'd like an answer to this before we vote.

I tend to take things personally. Other people can look at the "big picture". My senior picture is limited. I used to have enough in my pensions to pay my rent, bills and buy a birthday present for the grand kids. No big cruises or travels. Just to live. Under the Pasloski government, now I have to pay for some of my medications, my rent has skyrocketed. The price of food has put me on canned goods. Because I am a widow, I am even penalized under the new Pioneer Utility Grant guidelines. AND I hate the idea of someday being stuck out in Whistle Bend.

I am almost 77 and I need a job. Am I thanking you Darryl? I think not.

As for a carbon tax, as I have said before, Canada is 40 Billion dollars in debt, Ottawa desperately needs that tax money, as well as all the other tax money they are sneaking in..

http://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/canadians-now-pay-more-tax-than-they-spend-on-food-clothing-and-shelter-combined-study-finds

Whoever gets elected is going to have to deal with that tax. I'd rather see Health Care in the Yukon an issue than this red herring carbon tax. Its nothing but a diversion to keep Yukon voters from asking questions like..

This YP Government has doubled the funding coming into Yukon on Oct 11, 2016 at 4:04 pm

Feds and Yukon liberals want to take away our funding and is that fair Yukoners?
Do you support less money coming in and no increases because we are giving it away to other countries? Liberals supports homelessness but give the Yukon $14 million for housing YP has given $32.5 million to First Nations.
How much money has the YP has gone into social programs in the Yukon?
The most of any period in the Yukon history, 100's and 100's of million of dollars.

Two things: They love to say no net doubt, but to any reporters out there who want to look into this claim..........look at the debt of all the Crown Corps. Liquor Corp, Hospital, etc

2nd: It's a bit odd that the Yukon Party still mentions "Carbon Tax" every chance it gets. They seriously want to change the channel from their economic and justice records. They are trying to hoodwink us all.
