The Yukon Party is congratulating the incoming executive members of the Association of Yukon Communities (AYC).
Revised - Teslin Mayor Gord Curran says he is honoured to become the new president of the Association of Yukon Communities (AYC).
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, its AGM was held through a virtual platform last Saturday. As per the constitution and bylaws, an election for the four positions of the executive of the board of directors is conducted every two years.
“The newly elected executive brings a diversity of experience and a broad range of expertise in municipal government,” the AYC said Tuesday.
Coun. Jan Stick of the the City of Whitehorse was elected first vice-president, while Mayo Mayor Scott Bolton was elected second vice-president.
Tara Wheeler, a councillor for the Village of Carmacks, became the past president.
The AYC calls itself “the catalyst for effective, sustainable local governments that support strong communities, thus improving the lives of all Yukoners.”
“It is an honour to be elected as president by our membership, especially during this time,” Curran said.
“I appreciate being entrusted to lead the organization for the next two years. During this unprecedented and challenging time, the Association of Yukon Communities must continue to work closely with the Government of Yukon to develop immediate and longer-term strategies to protect and continue to help grow communities in the Yukon sustainably.”
The AYC has a solid foundation, an outstanding and diverse executive, and dedicated staff who will enable it to meet the challenges ahead, Curran added.
The Yukon Party congratulated the incoming executive members on Tuesday.
“Although the annual in-person AYC meetings were cancelled due to the pandemic, the business of running Yukon communities continues,” said Stacey Hassard, the interim leader of the official Opposition.
“I want to thank everyone who served on the previous executive for their valuable service to our municipalities and welcome the incoming executive.
“Local governance is where the rubber hits the road, and you are truly making a difference for Yukoners,” Hassard added.
“The Yukon Party looks forward to working closely with you as you raise your priorities and issues on behalf of your citizens.”

Who are the Yukon Party representing when they congratulate this Association most of who's members were elected by acclamation in the first place. The Yukon Party does not speak for the majority of Yukon voters so enjoy your minority position with your acclaimed patrons.
Move out to a community and become King. This is how we got 20 vote Fentie on the left and then he swam right as a matter of convenience because again the cons couldn't find a suitable leader.

hahaha in what world is this news!? I'm sure everyone welcomes the new board. Maybe next there can be a headline that says "Liberal Party cheers local parade" or "NDP congratulates local girl guide leaders"

Um, why is this news? I could see the news headline being “new AYC board elected” but why is Yukon party getting credit for the AYC doing their work?
