Yukon Historic Resources Fund invites applications
The first call for applications to the Yukon Historic Resources Fund has been issued, Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said Tuesday.
The first call for applications to the Yukon Historic Resources Fund has been issued, Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said Tuesday.
'Over the last number of years, money has been set aside in the Yukon Historic Resources Fund for future capital and legacy heritage projects throughout the Yukon,' Taylor said in a statement.
'The fund now stands at $1 million. Tourism and Culture will allocate half of the interest generated by this endowment fund based on recommendation from the Yukon Heritage Resources Board.'
Applicants can submit proposals to promote, protect and preserve Yukon's heritage by Feb. 15.
In this first year, $20,900 will be allocated. The board will review the applications based on established criteria.
The Historic Resources Fund was established in 1992. The fund is intended to provide a self-sustaining source of funding for historic resources.
With recommendations from the board, the minister can allocate half of the earned interest and private donations to the endowment fund for heritage projects.
Tourism and Culture administers the fund under the Financial Administration Act, with the support of the Department of Finance, to meet the Historic Resources Act's purpose.
The fund supports the objectives of the Historic Resources Act by providing money for projects in archaeology, palaeontology, community museums and heritage/cultural centres, historic sites, native language preservation, historical research and place names.
Private citizens, businesses, not-for-profit groups, first nations and municipalities are eligible for funding, with preference given to Yukon-based applicants.
