The Yukon Arts Centre will be closed to the public effective immediately until after the Easter long weekend (April 10-12).

The move came “after careful consideration and growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus,” the centre said today.

“Despite there being no known cases in the Yukon, the Yukon Arts Centre is taking this preventative measure in the best interest of its patrons, staff, and volunteers,” it said in a statement.

All scheduled events leading up to the Easter weekend will be cancelled or postponed. The Gallery will also be closed.

“Once we understand which affected events will be cancelled or postponed, we will share that with patrons with information on how to receive a refund, if applicable,” the centre said.

“We thank you for your patience and support as the country works through this extraordinary situation.”

The City of Whitehorse said Friday afternoon it’s “closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the territory to ensure we continue to respond to emerging issues as they relate to city facilities, programs, services and events.

“We will continue to follow the advice of the Yukon chief medical officer of health,” the city said.

“At this time, all city services are operating normally.

“Cleaning efforts are being stepped up across all city facilities, as well as on Whitehorse Transit buses.

“Please remember to practise good hygiene when visiting city facilities or using public transit, wash your hands thoroughly and stay home if you’re feeling sick.”
