Eric Schroff, the executive director of the Yukon Fish and Game Association (YFGA) and a former senior public servant, wants to run for the Yukon Party in the next election.
Eric Schroff, the executive director of the Yukon Fish and Game Association (YFGA) and a former senior public servant, wants to run for the Yukon Party in the next election.
He is eyeing Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes, which is held by Liberal cabinet minister John Streicker.
“I’m at the stage of my career where I can focus on the opportunity to give back to the community and the Yukon,” Schroff said today.
“I will work hard to rebuild the public service’s trust in government by providing leadership, direction and resources to our departments and empowering the staff and officials to get things done.”
Prior to leading the YFGA, Schroff served in a number of senior positions in the Yukon government.
He was an assistant deputy minister with the Departments of Economic Development and Community Services.
Previously, Schroff was a director of the parks branch as well as the Climate Change Secretariat, both within the Department of Environment.
“We’re at a very important juncture here in the Yukon where our tourism and culture businesses were hitting their stride before the pandemic,” Schroff said.
“As well, mining and potential development have great promise, and the Yukon is still that special and magical place that feeds the soul and the imagination.
“We need a government that is responsive, trustworthy, transparent and action-oriented.”
Schroff chairs both the nominations committee and the wildlife conservation policy committee for the Canadian Wildlife Federation. He is also a former chair of the Canadian Parks Council, as well as the Yukon Employment Standards Board.
“I have varied work experience through being self-employed in the private sector and serving non-profit organizations as well as in government positions, so I know what effective, responsive government looks like,” said Schroff.
“The Yukon Party, as evidenced by the list of current candidates and the leadership of Currie Dixon, is progressive, diverse and committed to being a great government. I’m excited about the possibility of joining this team.”
Schroff, a father of two grown children raised in the Yukon, lives at Lewes Lake with his partner, Pamela, and dogs Monty and Mukluk.
Yukon Party nominations for Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes, which includes Carcross, Tagish, Marsh Lake and Mount Lorne, will close next Saturday.

Oh yeah, other conservative values is, voter superstition, homophobia, anti immigration, restricting a women's rights over her body, Islamophobia and the increase of corporate welfare. This guy is not pressing all the right buttons, looks like a RINO.

@ true blue who said: Maybe Jonas Smith who ran federally could start up a Yukon Conservative Party?
Hilarious. Jonas didn’t even get out of the blocks, let alone race. TWICE.

I think it’s funny how people are starting to define Liberals vs Conservatives. Really funny. So people look to be caring, well rounded folks so Liberals say thy must be Liberals? As if they know no decent, balanced Conservatives? I consider myself more Conservative-minded than anything. I generally vote YP because I find them the most balanced without pandering to “interest groups” and minorities for votes. Reading these comments I see nothing more than a sleight of Liberal supporters trying to get people riled up in the comment section.
Eric is an amazing, kindhearted and passionate man. He has done great work for many years in his career and with YFGA. Kudos for you, Eric for putting your name forward and best of luck to you. And I absolutely stand behind your choice to run for the Yukon Party.

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and acts like a duck..... its a duck. No matter what you try to call it.
Now replace duck with Liberal.

"Give back" and take more. 'I'm a political man, I'm on the right, but I'm leaning leaning to the left". Is politics really the stage for giving back if you are not calling the shots and shaping the policy, in a party out to benefit mining and business, and not the fish and the wild life?

Judging by the tone of some comments here, it appears many are reading the writing on the wall and anticipate there may be a change of government.
I'm waiting for the silent majority to have their say come election day.

Judging by all the comments over recent weeks it's very clear that whatever stereotype some of you have about conservatives (small c, remember) just doesn't fit! Could it be we're all from different walks of life, involved in many different parts of society, having various passions and volunteer for many organizations? Nah, that can't be right, we must be Liberals.

After a long career in government he didn’t get his plush adm or dm job so now he’s out for the top job! For the right reasons I’m sure.

So this guy is a lifelong bureaucrat for one thing and second he is saying: "The Yukon Party, as evidenced by the list of current candidates and the leadership of Currie Dixon, is progressive, diverse". Seriously?
Will someone please start up a conservative party in the Yukon? I refuse to vote for any of our 3 progressive parties here and will stay home on election day if I don't have a conservative option to support. Maybe Jonas Smith who ran federally could start up a Yukon Conservative Party? I'd back him.

Eric worked hand in hand with ranj Pillai at economic development.
All his comments about “trustworthiness and integrity” are barbs aimed at ranj.
I don’t particularly like Eric but ranj is a whole other level of Dishonesty.

Old Timer and My Opinion: Now, what in that article did you two see to make you think Erik Schroff sounds like a Liberal?

How is this a con? Usually they are deniers of climate changes, rape the environment for its resources, pander to the big money of industry and declare that the world is flat.
I think buddy is in the wrong party and now you have cursed yourself. Being in the losing parties big tent, and having the radical rightwing nut bars scratching their heads wondering if your even serious.

My Opinion, he sounds like a Liberal? How so? He isn't spouting conspiracy theories? He speaks in a rational manner?

Makes sense, that's why he has been a mouthpiece about wanting hunters to be all over First Nations lands. Right in line with the Cons who don't care about First Nations interests.

Currie's Conservatives sound a lot like the Liberals. Wonder why people would vote more of the same.
