The Yukon government is launching a Youth Panel on Climate Change so young people can share their perspectives and provide advice on how to address the issue.

Yukon youth aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to apply by the deadline of Oct. 20.

Panel members will reflect the diversity of Yukon youth and will have a keen interest in supporting others to learn about climate change and take meaningful action, the government said Tuesday.

Seven to 10 panel members will be selected to serve a one-year term.

They will receive honouraria in exchange for their commitment to attend meetings, provide advice and perspectives, and participate in other activities.

“Climate change is the biggest challenge of this generation, and Yukon youth deserve to have their voices heard,” said Premier Sandy Silver.

“As we work together to tackle climate change, it is vital that we hear from youth as they are the next generation of leaders.

“I encourage youth from all Yukon communities to get involved and share their perspectives on how we can build a clean future for our territory.”

The panel supports the leadership objectives in Our Clean Future: A Yukon strategy for climate change, energy and a green economy.

The youth panel on climate change will:

• engage with young people across the Yukon on issues related to climate change, energy and a green economy;

• communicate young people’s perspectives on climate change action in Yukon;

• provide advice and perspectives to the territorial government on issues related to Our Clean Future;

• participate in activities that build leadership and life skills, and spread education related to climate change issues across Yukon;

• support youth across the territory to learn about climate change; and

• empower youth across the Yukon to take meaningful action related to climate change issues.

More information about the youth panel and how to submit an application is available at Yukon.ca/youth-climate-panel.

“We all have a stake in Yukon’s future, and we all need to work together to address climate change,” said Environment Minister Pauline Frost.

“Yukon youth have shown they care deeply about the impacts of climate change and want to be part of the solution.

“Our government is excited to have youth participate in shaping climate change actions here in Yukon.”

In the October 2019 Speech from the Throne, the government recognized there is a climate emergency, and committed to creating a youth panel on climate change.

The youth panel will be supported by BYTE – Empowering Youth.

The recently-released Our Clean Future outlines how the territory proposes to take action to address the impacts of climate change while building a green economy and ensuring Yukoners have access to reliable, affordable and renewable energy.

Speaking of advice, you forgot to add this to your, "The youth panel on climate change will:"
Propose ways in which politicians, and youth will create real jobs, that will create real taxes, that will pay for real climate change ideas, that will work, and will not bankrupt our country.

Hey...speaking of using tactics right outta that "Crazy Austrians" book of solutions.
Some of his most loyal and brutal "soldiers"...were that of the Crazy Austrians
...youth division...aka Hitler Youth.

So yes seems fitting team SS moves with this, as does their National counterparts The National Socialist Party (formerly Liberals).
Clean your own room kiddies before you lecture the rest of us about your indoctrination...I mean "the climate" concerns.
Oh yeah, Greta is a complete fraud if not victim of child abuse via her handlers.
...Or both.

Unbelievable how still short thinking and conform to the earth destroying capitalistic ideologist all these commenters are.
Are they really that good of parents that their 12-year-old offspring is still wetting the bed?

Have they not heard that China puts more effort into green alternative energy installations than the rest of the so wonderful world combined?
Since when can you call our highly educated and spoken out youth a mob?
What do you call the neo-Nazi thugs armed to the tees on the streets?

It is a long time overdue the people whose future gets destroyed, educate themselves about the possibilities on how the destruction can be slowed down, I say on purpose not stop. It will take much longer to correct the done damage than it took to do it.
Young people stand up and demand from politicians and industry leaders to change.

It is your future.

Recruiting for a mob of young and angry climate protesters is more like it. The tactics of the left are becoming even more transparent.

Not sure I buy this, it's virtue signaling at its finest.
But you know, they may be advocates for electric cars and smaller home sizes and renewable energy, you know those solutions that seem beyond us for some reason.

This should make for some interesting times. 12 yr olds...yikes they are still wetting the bed and they are going to provide advice on a climate evolution. Send the whole panel to China and report back!

Unfeckingbelievable! on Sep 23, 2020 at 5:22 pm

Youthful perspectives on an issue that has been overinflated to fuel the fires of conformism and social control through a screech narrative. Unfeckingbelievable!
We are wasting resources on a concern that has been contrived and manipulated for mass consumption... Mmmmmm... Ignorance, yum-yum! Lap it up children... Savour the taste...
