A 15-year-old youth arrested early last Friday morning is facing 15 criminal charges, Whitehorse RCMP say.

A press release says the charges are related to a series of recent break-and-enter incidents, thefts and mischief in and around the Whitehorse area.

The youth appeared in territorial court last Friday. He was remanded into custody pending another court appearance scheduled for today.

His identity is protected from publication because he is a youth.

Whitehorse RCMP arrested the teenager at approximately 3:30 a.m. near the Lewes River Bridge located north of Marsh Lake. The accused had abandoned a vehicle and fled on foot.

The 15 charges include:

• break and enter;
• theft under $5,000;
• mischief over $5,000;
• theft of a motor vehicle;
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
• assault of a peace officer;
• assault with a weapon;
• resisting arrest;

A number of matters related to the youth are still under investigation.

Additional charges are pending, police said.

This kid is already out and roaming the streets again. Not long before things start getting stolen again...

In fact, going to youth jail is like going to college to sharpen up your professional skills.

Right now, he's laughing his head off because he knows he will be coddled. And if he goes to youth jail, he will be with his friends. For most of these ones, youth jail is better than living at home.
