Youth conference is underway

Bringing Youth Toward Equality (BYTE) began hosting its three-day second annual Leaders in Training Conference today in Whitehorse.
More than 16 youth from six Yukon communities have gathered to learn the skills to become leaders in their communities.
The conference is an effort to engage youth from the communities and to give them the tools and skills to be innovative leaders.
The three-day workshop is based on the idea that providing youth with leadership training will allow them to engage more confidently with their peers, mentors, and obstacles they face throughout their lives.
It's also an opportunity for youth from across the territory to meet each other and for BYTE to continue building relationships with the rural youth staff visit during their community tours.
"We'll be working hard with the youth to promote team-building through ice-breakers and games, teach facilitation techniques, and provide fun activities that allow us to talk about the meaning and importance of good leadership,” BYTE said in a statement.
Brenda Barnes from the Yukon Women's Directorate will deliver a talk on gender stereotyping.
Cody Park, the valedictorian from last year's First Nations Grad, will talk to the youth about how to be a positive leader throughout high school.
The conference is taking place at the Westmark Whitehorse Hotel.

A 3 day conference to "learn the skills to become leaders in their communities."
"to engage youth from the communities and to give them the tools and skills to be innovative leaders."
"provide youth with leadership training will allow them to engage more confidently with their peers, mentors, and obstacles they face throughout their lives."
Wow..all this in 3 days.. WTG BYTE.
I agree with the concept. I disagree with the execution. Perhaps all high schoolers would benefit from this training if BYTE traveled to the schools that have interested youth with a more comprehensive program.
