The Yukon Party is seizing an opportunity to once again ravage the government over a piece of legislation which now appears to be in limbo.
The legislation in question, Bill 3, was to amend the Assessment and Taxation Act and the Municipal Act, and was to incorporate climate change clauses.
On Monday, Community Services Minister Richard Mostyn promised the bill would be voted on the next day (Tuesday), but it didn’t appear on the final order paper for the day.
“The Liberals continue to get cold feet on their marquee piece of legislation, Bill No. 3, as they once again have backed down from bringing it for debate,” the Yukon Party stated in a news release.
“The Liberals have completely bungled the consultation on this piece of legislation, and the minister has antagonized and strained relationships with Yukon municipalities as a result,” said Currie Dixon, the leader of the official Opposition.
“After bragging several times that they would bring this legislation forward for a vote, the Liberals have finally blinked and realized that this bill was going to be defeated as a result of the minister’s failures on this file.”
The news release stated that “for the entire 2021 fall sitting, the Liberals have highlighted Bill No. 3 as a defining achievement of their government.
“Yet throughout the sitting, they have also demonstrated that they are afraid to debate it and bring it to a vote in the legislative assembly,” Dixon said.
“This has been the worst legislative sitting ever for a government,” added Dixon.
“After the house called for the deputy premier (Tracy-Anne McPhee) to resign and the government barely survived a confidence vote, the Liberals have received a serious wake-up call that they are no longer a majority and able to just ram any legislation through the assembly.”
The government told the Star through a cabinet spokesperson the motion will be debated this week.

The real bungle not mentioned is Workers Compensation legislation. Richard Mostyn, YEU, YP, are enemies of injured workers, based on their track record since the YP came to power after the NDP. The current NDP know nothing about the legislation. The give away to the bungle is in two sentences by Mostyn in the Yukon News. It reveals a reversal in the law of 'negative rebuttal' that favors WCB and employer over the injured worker. The law of negative rebuttal is supposed to protect the injured worker, not the WCB. So whatever your politics, left, right, or center, it's all rotten. YEU getting on their high horse regarding vaccine mandates, while at the same time sending injured workers down the road of perdition. Richard Mostyn worked for the WCB, his role in the legislation review should have been declared a conflict of interest.

Except all the ammo Currie was firing was blanks.
He lost the election.
His petition was just embarrassing. Unvetted and written in crayon.
His attempt to throw the YLP under the bus on Hidden Valley only exposed YPs involvement
His non confidence vote backfired to show his own incompetence.
This guy should consider a career change.

Why do a lot of commenters say things like “the YP track record was not good either or the Liberal track record yada yada”? How can nobody see who is at the helm and who is the opposition. How can anybody stand behind the overt dysfunction of the LNDP…

I am happy with the vote and results. I like the fact the YP is the opposition and it is like the little brother pointing out what the older child is doing wrong. The government does not hold themselves accountable, someone has too. IF the liberals were transparent, Currie would not be able to illustrate their faults day in and day out.
Yet, it does get annoying as I find it hard to believe that a government can give the opposition so much ammunition.

Hate to see Currie's Trump-tonian style. He would be more successful in Alberta if anything. The Yukon is better than this. Do better Currie.

If the bill is as good and beneficial as the government maintains it is, give it second reading. I am reminded of the Yukon First Nations Procurement Policy dcevelopment which was done on the sly without any public input. If Bill #3 has any value for Yukoners, explain how and why.

While I'm certainly not happy with the Liberals I'm very skeptical that the Yukon Party would be any better. The past Yukon Party governments sure did not have a very good track record when it came to consultation either...

Barely survived a confidence vote? The knob knew going in he was not going to have the NDP support, yet he went ahead for the theatre of it all and then calls it barely surviving?

I have a lot of respect for Sandy Silver and the Yukon Liberal Party.
They are of course far from perfect but overall they do well. Sure the parents of that school should have been notified against the legal advice the Minister was given and that election was poorly planned. But in comparison to Currie's party they are doing ok. I wish Scott Kent was the leader of the Yukon Party.
The two Yukon Party members made marginally inappropriate mistakes in my opinion BTW and its nice to see that tempest is behind them.

Mike; dropped the market price on housing about 30%???? 2009 - 3 bedroom, 2 bath in CR $309,000.00; today $548,000.00; your math appears to be fuzzy.

Thank god this guy isn’t our Premier and never will be. An absolute embarrassment he is.
The rest of us are out here busting our asses try to move forward while this guy is trying to hammer square pegs into round holes.
Currie, I challenge you to do ONE POSITIVE THING for Yukoners. Just one. I bet you can’t.

The liberals have dropped the ball on every policy siding with the extreme Kate White on safe injection sites and millions on the government run homeless shelter that has dropped the market price on housing about 30%. This government has made unachieveable promises to the Territory that they will default on. Then the Territories Mandates will be challenged in the Supreme Court's and they will lose leaving the Territory liable for a massive civil suit. 42 opioid deaths in 10 months 14 deaths for covid and the liberal government has closed our Territory pushed for vaccines that are now showing unhealthy side effects and it does nothing to protect you from getting covid.
This Territory and this country has never been so divided and let down by it's leadership or lack there of. Nothing will change until people change and open their minds to the facts or the science if you may. There is zero science that condones the liberal government's response to the virus what so ever. Only fear mongering vaccine pushing crap that is our Territories and country's liberal government agenda. I hope only the best for this country but fear the worst hasn't even showed it's ugly head. Liberals must go.

The YP was never perfect. The liberals are not perfect.
I’m getting so tired of Curries GOP style attacks.
Good to see his true colours.
