The territorial government and the Yukon Association of Education Professionals reached a tentative agreement in collective bargaining last Thursday.
The deal was not announced publicly until Tuesday.
The pact will be submitted to a vote by the respective parties. No details will be released until after the ratification process.
The current agreement expired last June 30.
The association, which represents educational professionals in Yukon schools, has 1,119 current active members.
Meanwhile, the government says it’s starting to make some headway on the shortage of teachers.
Education Minister Jeanie McLean advised the legislature late last month that “normally, we put out an ad for a teacher in the Yukon and we are flooded with applications. That is not the case this year.
“This is a national issue. All jurisdictions are struggling with the same issues that we are in the Yukon.
“I want to say that our numbers are slowly improving.”
As an indicator of that, in mid-November, the government had said it had at least 25 unfilled postings, mostly in rural Yukon such as Old Crow.

Why not get the conservation officers to fill in for the teachers?
“I want to say that our numbers are slowly improving.”
You want to, but you can't.
"Meanwhile, the government says it’s starting to make some headway on the shortage of teachers."
Headway? As apposed to actual progress. Why not remove the unvaxxed children from the classroom so less teachers are needed? You might as well discriminate equally among all ages.
"“This is a national issue. All jurisdictions are struggling with the same issues that we are in the Yukon."
Well it's a good thing we follow along with other jurisdictions. I know two teachers who are were let go because of medical discrimination, and another one with health complications from the same thing the former two were discriminated for. Apparently when you let a bunch of people go, illegally by the way, it's difficult to replace them.
