Xplornet plans to extend its services

The Yukon Party says it’s pleased that Xplornet Communications Inc. has agreed to extend its services to rural Yukoners beyond Dec. 31.
“Yukoners who live or work in rural Yukon were disappointed to hear that their satellite internet service was going to abruptly end at the end of 2020,” the party said in a statement.
Xplornet Communications Inc. had announced the service, of which they are the primary provider to Yukoners, had been scheduled to shut down at year’s end.
On Tuesday, however, Xplornet sent notice that they are extending service to customers beyond Dec. 31.
“On Sept. 4, 2020 the Klondike Placer Miners Association held their annual general meeting, and this issue was one of significant concern to many of their members,” the Yukon Party said.
“At the meeting, the Yukon Party committed to raise the issue with the federal government to ensure a solution could be found.”
On Sept. 9, party leader Currie Dixon wrote to the Navdeep Bains, the federal minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, asking the federal government to work with the company to find a solution.

This whole discussion seems pointless. XploreNet was here, providing a service that was in demand (especially by remote people), then it announced it was leaving. There is a lot more to this but we have not heard what it is.
Then, ALL the political hacks (Larry, Richard, Currie et al) announce they are looking into it, and are giving a contract to Total North.
Total North has been here a long time (40 + years ?). (Total North solely had the biggest Government communication contracts awarded for most of those years.)
I still would love to hear what actually is going on here. Judge Judy says; "If it doesn't make sense, then it's not the truth."

Mick that's funny! Maybe because the opposition actually helped to get this service returned? The government didn't care - they just posted photos of themselves on the phone pretending to care. Perhaps if "the actual government" would take some tips from the opposition - both of them, more would get done faster. This is definitely not thanks to the government. But thanks for the laugh!

Does the Whitehorse Star just print press releases from the Yukon Party without even acknowledging that it's a press release? The current government was involved in these negotiations, it wasn't just Currie writing a letter.

I believe the actual territorial government might have had something to do with this, according to friends of mine who use this service.

Seriously though, who cares what the YuCon party thinks or does, the actual Government can handle this.
