Whitehorse RCMP suspect foul play in the discovery of a woman's body in the Yukon River on Sunday, and are treating the incident as a homicide.
Police were called to the river at approximately 12:44 p.m. Sunday, where a body had been found near the Roundhouse on the waterfront.
The identity of the individual is not being released to allow for the notification of next-of-kin.
The Star has learned that the victim, reportedly a first nations woman in her mid-twenties, was discovered face-down by a man believed to be her cousin.
The crime scene is still cordoned off with police tape.
Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed or have any information about the incident to contact them at 667-5555 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The RCMP "M" Division Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are continuing to investigate the matter.
The RCMP would not release further details when contacted this morning.

Another body found!!! I guess the message in the Yukon is kill someone here. It will take a year for the investigation, and then if you get charged for it, there will probably be technicalities with the paper work, you will probably be free to go!!!
Condolences go out to this family.
