Woman dies in single-vehicle collision

A 21-year-old woman from Washington state died Tuesday after a single-vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway near Marshall Creek, east of Haines Junction.

A 21-year-old woman from Washington state died Tuesday after a single-vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway near Marshall Creek, east of Haines Junction.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Haines Junction RCMP and Haines Junction EMS responded to the collision, police said today.

The Haines Junction and Ibex Valley fire departments also attended.

Police found that a Nissan Titan pickup truck with two occupants had left the road and flipped over.

The woman and a 21-year-old man from Alaska were transported to Whitehorse General Hospital. The woman died from her injuries prior to arrival.

The man was later flown to Vancouver on a medevac due to serious injuries. No names were released, and police did not specify who was driving the vehicle.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor, and the collision is still being investigated by Haines Junction RCMP and the Yukon Coroner’s Service.
