A 40-year-old woman, originally from the Northwest Territories, has been killed after a vehicle crash in Faro.

Dead is Mavis Hurst, who lived just outside Faro.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. last Wednesday, Faro RCMP received a report from Faro Emergency Medical Services of a motor vehicle incident on the Robert Campbell Highway at mile marker 464, police said in a statement.

The report indicated that a white truck had gone off the road, and that a woman had died at the scene of the incident.

RCMP officers found a white Ford F-350 off the embankment. The truck was facing westbound, and appeared to have been headed for Carmacks.

There was extensive damage to the vehicle.

Hurst, originally from Inuvik, was found dead near the vehicle. It’s believed that speed resulted in her being ejected from the vehicle upon impact, police said.

Initial reports suggest that alcohol may have also been a factor.

The Yukon Coroner’s Service has attended the scene, and is working with Faro RCMP to continue the investigation into Hurst’s death.
