A Dawson City-area woman died last Thursday from two explosions and a consequent fire destroyed a house at Kilometre 1 of the Old Bonanza Road.

The Yukon Coroner’s Service confirmed Wednesday afternoon that 62-year-old Camelia Ann “Cam” Sigurdson had been in the home at the time of the explosions and was found dead at the scene.

She had been a long-time resident of the area.

Chief coroner Heather Jones was notified of the fire-associated fatality last Thursday evening. Dawson City’s Fire Department and the RCMP had attended the scene.

“It was reported that an explosion had occurred within the house at this location soon after the two residents had arrived home from their summer camp in the mine-fields,” the coroner’s office said in a statement.

“Shortly after the first explosion, a second explosion occurred within the house and the resulting fires consumed the structure.

“The cause of the explosions and fire is still under investigation by the Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office with the assistance of the Dawson City Fire Department.”

The dwelling’s second resident had been outside of the home when the explosions occurred and was not injured.

An autopsy is scheduled for Oct. 5 in Abbotsford, B.C.

“Yukon Coroner’s Service continues our investigation and appreciates the expert assistance from the Yukon Fire Marshal’s Office, Yukon RCMP’s Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units and the Dawson City detachment of the RCMP,” the coroner’s service said.

“This tragic incident is not considered to be a criminal event. Yukon Coroner’s Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of “Cam” Sigurdson and the community of Dawson City.”

@himho- this is what is wrong with society today. The fact that this is the first concern that you voice is absurd and the fact that you feel you are entitled to an answer to this absurd question that is clearly explained if you read the coroners remarks is mind boggling.
For transparency sake I am Cam's daughter in law and I can 100% confirm that there was no meth lab- this was nothing more then an absolutely tragic accident. The reason it was not reported on was because there was family that had not been notified, personally I believe family being notified first trumps letting the public know about an absolutely horrifying and tragic accident that took the life of my children's grandmother.

Hey you never know, I thought I would ask. It seemed a little suspicious that the police did not release this news earlier. So the first thing that came to my mind was either meth lab or they were making bombs.
Thanks for clearing it up though.

@ Himho - I know Chuck and I knew Cam. I can say with 99% certainty that there was no meth lab there.

bonanzajoe: At the time of the event, a week ago, the only information available was a FaceBook post announcing the GoFundMe campaign. There was no official information, including the name of the deceased and the family, until early this week.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but why was this tragic news not reported a week ago when it happened? Is there a mistake on the date here?
