A 31-year-old Carcross woman has been charged with aggravated assault after a Whitehorse man was stabbed Thursday morning.

Cpl. Leanne Lind said this morning a 53-year-old man was stabbed with a knife somewhere downtown at around 7 a.m. Thursday.

There, they found the man suffering from a stab wound.

He was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital and remains in stable condition with injuries to his front left chest, said hospital spokeswoman Val Pike.

The RCMP will not provide specifics on what part of downtown the stabbing took place in, what happened, what type of knife was used nor the number of injuries.

'I'm not going to get into the type of knife used,' Lind said, noting it's part of the investigation.

Police would also not say if the pair involved are known to each other.

'At this point, it's under investigation,' Lind said.

Donna Lori Johns was to appear in court later today.
