MISHAP DISRUPTS POWER – Firefighters, as well as an RCMP officer, work at the scene of Sunday’s incident, which cut power for 300 consumers in the area.
About 300 people lost power Sunday afternoon after a driver hit a pole in a downtown alleyway, knocking some wires.
About 300 people lost power Sunday afternoon after a driver hit a pole in a downtown alleyway, knocking some wires.
The power went out at about 1:30 p.m., Laura Carlson of ATCO Electric Yukon said this morning.
Most customers had the lights back on an hour later.
People in the immediate area, between Ogilvie and Cook streets, where the pole was, had power restored by 3:15 p.m.
A 23-year-old woman is facing three charges under the Motor Vehicle Act: failure to remain at the scene of an accident, driving carelessly, and failure to signal a turn, according to a witness’ report.
The witness called police to report that a green pickup truck had struck the pole, and the driver then left the scene.
Whitehorse RCMP Const. Dean Hoogland said police located the truck and the female driver shortly after.
