A Pelly Crossing man is dead after he was stabbed in the chest Sunday evening.

A nurse at the Pelly Crossing health centre called the RCMP at 9:41 p.m. Sunday to report a man had arrived with a stab wound.

The 28-year-old man was still alive when they arrived, police said.

The man was stabbed at a home in Pelly Crossing, though he didn't live there, said Cpl. Dave Wallace, detachment commander for the Pelly Crossing RCMP.

The stabbing victim was taken by ambulance from the health centre to Mayo for a medivac flight into Whitehorse.

The man died at 12:55 this morning during the 90-minute drive to Mayo.

A suspect was arrested at the scene of the stabbing.

Christina Marie Asp, 25, was to make her first court appearance earlier this afternoon via teleconference. She is charged with second-degree murder.

Officers secured the crime scene. As of late this morning, they were preparing warrants and waiting for major crimes and forensic investigators from RCMP headquarters in Whitehorse to arrive before entering the residence where the man was stabbed.

It's unknown if any weapons have been recovered yet, said Wallace, or if there was a party going on when the man was attacked.

Police aren't naming the dead man until next-of-kin notification is completed.
