A 30-year-old woman has been charged with defrauding two local organizations of more than $17,000.

The first charges against Karen Fernets allege that between Jan. 1 and March 1, she defrauded the Northern Safety Network of $12,663.84.

A second charge reads that on Feb. 1, she allegedly defrauded the Yukon Contractors Association of $5,101.08.

The Northern Safety Network was formerly the Yukon Construction Safety Association. It was a project developed in partnership between the contractors association and the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board to promote safety at the workplace.

A final charge against Fernets of failing to comply with a condition goes on to state that she didn't follow part of a recognizance that she not leave Alberta.

Fernets was released on bail last week. She is scheduled to make her next court appearance on April 11.

The accused is currently under a number of bail conditions, including a 10 p.m.-to-7 a.m. curfew.
