This morning’s lengthy power outage was caused by a loss of generation at the Whitehorse Rapids Dam, says Stephanie Cunha, a Yukon Energy spokeswoman.

Cunha explained shortly after noon that officials were still examining what caused the loss of generation.

ATCO Electric Yukon explained in a press release early this afternoon that approximately 12,124 customers across most of Whitehorse and south to Teslin were affected.

The outage began at 8:54. Power was gradually restored across the grid beginning in Riverdale at 10:09.

For some parts of the downtown area, for instance, power was out for 2 1/2 hours.

The 2,218 customers in Porter Creek had their power back on at 11:38. Areas north of Porter Creek were not affected.

@ GD'N
It's going to take several days or weeks to get the spin right. The last thing you would want to do is tell the truth- that would severely hamper the next rate increase application. Investors are not in the game to get pleasant returns. If the return falls below 15% the minions take action and empty your wallet. It's a lot like the fuel game- in 2008 oil was $135/barrel and pump price was $1.15/ L
In 2019 oil is $ 67/ barrel and the pump price is $ 1.65/ L (Vancouver)
If one energy structure can get away with murder why can't they all do it? Just seems fair- right?

Why does it take days to publically identify the problem they fixed in a few hours?

Get ready for a rate increase application.
