Whitehorse resident Edith Baker has claimed the $100,000 prize from the Millionaire for Life lottery game, Western Canada Lottery Corp. officials said Thursday.

The 50-year-old Kwanlin Dun First Nation councillor bought her $23 ticket containing seven Millionaire for Life Selections and three Extra numbers 'Entered' from the Bigway supermarket in the Granger-Copper Ridge area.

Lottery officials had said earlier this month the ticket had been sold in Whitehorse.

Baker discovered her windfall when she had the ticket checked following the Feb. 28 draw.

'I just went to buy a loaf of bread, and I had a few lottery tickets I needed to check,' Baker said in a statement released by Lotteries Yukon.

'After the clerk checked them, she told me I had won a lot of money.'

After looking at the validation slip that showed the prize amount, the single woman realized she had won $100,000. Her ticket also won her an additional $2 for matching the last Extra digit drawn.

'I was absolutely shocked!' Baker said.

'Another lady was in the store, and she had a look at my ticket and said, Everyone is looking for you.''

When she claimed her prize, the happy winner said she had already started to make plans for her windfall.

'l'm going to Edmonton for holidays with my nephew and two nieces, so I plan to spoil them,' she said.

She also plans to use her winnings to pay bills and possibly make some investments.

Millionaire for Life was a limited-time lottery game offered in every province and territory in February.

Tickets were on sale from Feb. 1 to Feb. 28.

The winning numbers were drawn only from Selections sold for the Top Prize of $1 million a year for 25 years, four prizes of $1 million, 20 prizes of $100,000, and 14 Early Bird prizes of $100,000 (drawn from Selections purchased on or before Feb. 14).

Baker's winning Selection 233465-25 exactly matched one of the 20 numbers drawn for a prize of $100,000 from all Selections purchased from Feb. 1 to Feb. 28.
