Whitehorse RCMP are looking for 52-year-old Poul (Paul) Lutzen.

The Whitehorse man, who runs a natural hoof care business at Wheaton River Gardens south of Whitehorse, has not been seen since last Thursday afternoon. He was reported missing the following day, said Sgt. Mark Groves, speaking for the RCMP.

Police report he was last seen driving his 1984 sky blue Dodge step-up camper van on the Carcross Road near Whitehorse. The van has no rear windows, a spare tire mounted on the back, and Yukon licence plate number BRN 59.

Lutzen's partner, Shiela Alexandrovich, told the Star that Lutzen had finished a hoof trimming job on the south side of town last Thursday afternoon.

He was due at another job north of town later that day, "but he didn't show up for the second appointment," Alexandrovich said today.

"He wasn't feeling that well when he left, and he's not the sort of person to go running to a hospital."

Alexandrovich said it is "very unusual" for Lutzen not to call or show up to a job.

"My thought is that he is tucked into a back road somewhere on the south side of town," she said.

She doesn't think Lutzen drove through Whitehorse, because he did not pick up an address book he had left in town.

His van is equipped with camping gear and food, Alexandrovich said.

Lutzen is five feet nine inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes and a moustache. He weighs approximately 175 pounds and has a medium build. He usually wears glasses.

So far, the search is being conducted by Whitehorse RCMP, with help from other detachments around the territory, Groves said.

No search and rescue personnel have yet been called in and police are hoping for the public's help in finding the missing man.

Anyone with any information on Lutzen's whereabouts is asked to call the Whitehorse RCMP at (867) 667-5551, or any local detachment.

Was Paul ever found? I ask because he was a good friend of ours going back to 1988 +/-. At the time, living in Sandspit on the Queen Charlotte Islands my wife and I were operating a Federal salmon Hatchery facility and hired Paul on to work with us. I trapped on the Charlottes and helped Paul learn the art of trapping.
My wife and I moved to Prince Rupert in 1992, fishing commercially until 2017. In 2004 we moved to Terrace BC and heard Paul was also living here but weren’t able to get in touch with him. Then we heard he’d left Terrace but had no idea where he went. For whatever reason I thought I’d try again online and happened on this story of him being missing. If anyone had any information on Paul’s whereabouts we’d sure appreciate it.

Wondering why the search and rescue have not been called to assist with the RCMP.

The man has been missing since Oct.16th, that is almost a week ago.

Um... WTF is that all about? There's a highly trained and capable Search and Rescue organisation in Yukon, and the cops are only using their strained resources and a plea to the public to find this man? Completely and utterly outrageous.
