A 25-year-old Whitehorse man has been charged with possessing and accessing child pornography.
A 25-year-old Whitehorse man has been charged with possessing and accessing child pornography.
Whitehorse RCMP said Tuesday they received information last Saturday from a concerned citizen that prompted them to start an investigation.
That has resulted in an arrest and subsequent charges.
“The facts around how the information was given to police will come out in court,” Const. Julia Fox said this morning.
Cody Squire, 25, made a first appearance in territorial court Tuesday. He was released on a recognizance.
Squire has been ordered to stay away from schools, pools and parks, and not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless someone older than 25 is present.
Squire must also not possess any devices capable of accessing the Internet or taking photos.
Police say there is no indication at this time that any children from the Yukon are involved.
Squire is not known to have any affiliations with any local organizations or groups that involve children, according to police.
“Investigations related to vulnerable victims such as children are a priority for the Yukon RCMP,” the news release stated.
“Parents and caregivers are encouraged to monitor their children’s Internet activity and to talk with them about safe and appropriate Internet use.”

While I generally think that the advent of technology has made it very easy for the government to invade its citizenry, eliminate any privacy what so ever, and allowed us to become severely over legislated.. if it has led to even 1 child deviant being stopped in his tracks, I guess I can live with it.
I have 0 tolerance for child predators. I believe a person who goes after children in any way should pay for it with their life. That won't happen of course.. some bleeding heart will whine and cry for the predator to be rehabilitated. Just saying.. I think that's what should happen.
Society as a whole does not do enough to protect our young.
