Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU), with the assistance of Yukon Search and Rescue (YSAR), conducted two days of ground and air searches last weekend in the area of McIntyre Creek and Fish Lake Road.
The search was as a result of information the RCMP received during the course of their investigation.
Chad McGill, 52, is still missing.
He was last seen in his vehicle, a 2019 red Kia Stinger with B.C. licence plate PB551E, in the Whitehorse area on Aug. 24, 2022.
The vehicle was found abandoned on Aug. 26, 2022, parked facing east on the Alaska Highway.
It was recovered by police between kilometers 1474 and 1476, just east of the Kluane Wagon Road.
It’s believed the car stayed at that location until it was towed on Aug. 27.
McGill was not with the vehicle and his whereabouts remain unknown.
“Police believe Mr. McGill’s disappearance is associated to the homicide of James Richard Aikens, who was found deceased on August 27, 2022, on a rural property north of Whitehorse,” police said today.
“Mr. Aikens’ homicide is still under investigation by the Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit.”Aikens, 41, had been a B.C. resident.
Information about McGill’s disappearance was previously shared in August and September 2022 by the Yukon RCMP.
“Yukon RCMP wish to thank those who have already come forward with information and want to speak to anyone with information on Mr. McGill’s whereabouts, or anyone who saw him or his vehicle in the Whitehorse area between August 24 and 26, 2022,” police said.
“Investigators also want to follow up with anyone who may have interacted with Mr. McGill throughout the summer months before his disappearance on August 24, 2022.
“Mr. McGill’s family and Yukon RCMP are concerned for his well-being. Members of his family say that it is out of character for him not be in communication with them for this long.”
McGill’s description is Caucasian, six feet (183 cm) tall, weighing 260 lbs. (118 kg.), with blond hair, blue eyes and metal prosthetic limb (left leg).
Anyone with information on either of these investigations is encouraged to contact their local detachment or the Yukon RCMP at 867-667-5555.

In September 2022, discussing Aikens’ death, police announced, “As a result of an autopsy, Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit (MCU) investigators have determined that the suspicious death investigation previously reported on August 31, 2022 has now been deemed as a homicide.
“The exact cause of death will not be released.
“At this time, it is also suspected that the homicide investigation is related to the missing persons investigation of Chad Oliver McGill reported on August 30, 2022.”
