There is good news on the territorial fire front once again today.

Yukon government spokesperson Julia Duchesne said there are still 77 fires burning in the Yukon, but the fire danger is low almost throughout the territory.

“The recent rain and cooler weather has led to a big reduction in fire behaviour and activity across the Yukon,” she said.

“So, we haven’t had any new fires starting in the past few days, and existing fires have quieted right down.

“Aside from that and the Dawson alert being lifted, there is not much news.”

She was referring to last week’s evacuation alert for several areas near Dawson City, including the airport.

The main townsite was not included.
