A 19-year-old woman is in custody following a stabbing incident in Watson Lake early Thursday morning.
At approximately 3:10 a.m., police received a call about a stabbing at a Watson Lake residence, an RCMP media release states.
'On attending the scene, police officers found an adult female suffering from multiple stab wounds,' the release says.
'Local emergency medical service personnel immediately transported the victim to the hospital, where she was treated for her serious but non-life-threatening injuries.'
Arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault is Watson Lake resident Kristina Brittany Porter.
Porter was transported to Whitehorse and has been remanded into custody at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre.
The victim and the accused are believed to be related to one another, Sgt. John Bennett of the Watson Lake RCMP detachment told the Star this morning.
The victim, he added, is older than Porter.
Alcohol, according to the release, is believed to have been a factor in the violence.
Watson Lake hospital officials could not be reached for comment this morning.
The stabbing was the second reported incident of its kind in the Yukon since Dec. 27.
That evening, a 29-year-old man was rushed to Whitehorse General Hospital after having been stabbed several times at a Taylor Street residence in downtown Whitehorse.
Charged with aggravated assault in connection with that case is Shannon Bob, 26, of Whitehorse.
The names of the stabbing victims in both incidents have not been made public.
