A man will spend the holidays at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre following an encounter with the RCMP last Thursday evening.

At approximately 9:05 p.m., Whitehorse RCMP received a report of an intoxicated man at a business on Second Avenue. Upon arrival, officers detained him for an impaired driving investigation.

He “became unco-operative, and fled from police in his vehicle, damaging a police vehicle and causing minor injury to one of the attending officers in the process,” police said Tuesday afternoon.

They arrested the man Monday.

Ben Devellano, 33, faces the following Criminal Code charges:

• flight from police;

• the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug;

• assaulting a police officer with a weapon;

• obstruction; and

• mischief causing damage over $5,000.

Devellano turned himself into police on Monday morning and was remanded into custody.

His next court appearance is Jan. 6.

Interesting read in the comments. Everyone seems so well educated. All I want to say is guilty until proven innocent seems to be the way of thinking. @guncache... are you speaking about Ben Devellano's twin brother being murdered when you made your comment? Very human of you.. bravo.

@TheHummer - It must be a comfort to you to be able to hide within the confines of your own thoughts. Crime is a choice that one makes within the framework of a justificatory ideology of the self.

Victim narratives are self-fulfilling prophecies that those who seek to vindicate the self through some grand delusion use to save face in the light of having been caught. Historic injustices used to explain present decisions and choices are an indication of weakness. Rise up and empower yourself.

The yoke you carry is of your own fashion.
I recognize all crime whether it be psychological, physical, processual, or genocidal - So go pound salt with your hammer. I do not condone weakness.
What is your evidence to suggest that 75% of Canadians would be locked up? That’s crazy talk - sorry, I meant hyperbolic! Perhaps you were hammered when you wrote that?

Oh, and quit blaming Canadians. I don’t know why people who generalize find it acceptable to do so - It’s not! What it does do though is indicate that the one who is generalizing is either too tired to think or just not used to it or perhaps they are just hammered out of their mind.
That’s a criminal’s game... Politicians do it too but I did not want to make any negative assumptions. Being a criminal is bad enough...

Unfeckingbelievable, JC, @ If the justice system was based on your ideas 75% of Canadians would be behind bars, You are talking about small time offenders, not organized crime, and rogue nations hacking their way into our political system. There are thousands of Canadians, if not millions, who will never see justice. As a matter of fact when of the greatest crimes committed in Canada by Canadians doesn't even enter into your concept of Justice.

@ JC - I am surprised that we have not heard anything about the Yukon’s Frequently Arrested and Incarcerated Losers of Unemployed Reprobates Everywhere Program - (FAILURE Program).

When you participate in the Yukon’s FAILURE program run by the Territorial Courts as part of the Judicial Usurpation of Safe and Trusting Individuals in Caring Environments (JUSTICE).

The thinking distortions that these people engage in would make excellent case studies... But hey, what do you expect from a system that relies on JUSTICE FAILURE as a way to do business... It’s some small measure of comfort that we as a society have made room for everyone... As the expression goes - Do what you are... JUSTICE FAILURE... Hmmm...

Well, since he turned himself in, that should take 90% off his sentence, plus time served on top of it.
