The city's 2010 Volunteer of the Year will be named Wednesday night.

"The city is pleased to celebrate another great year for volunteerism in Whitehorse,” Mayor Bev Buckway said in a statement Monday. "Our community has great opportunities and takes on big challenges, and that is due in no small part to the effort of our volunteers.”

An awards reception to honour the Volunteer of the Year, along with the other 20 residents nominated for the award, will be held at the Westmark Whitehorse Hotel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

"I would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated and thank all of our community's volunteers for their ongoing efforts,” Buckway said.

Elinor Frederickson was named Volunteer of the Year for 2009 after years of advocating for people with learning disabilities through her work with the Learning Disabilities Association of the Yukon.
