RCMP officers who arrived at a local hotel to chat up a man who lived there ended the trip by putting cocaine in exhibit bags.

At mid-afternoon Wednesday, officers went to the hotel to talk to the man about an unrelated matter. They arrived to watch the man walking toward the hotel entrance.

Officers watched him drop a small bag of white powder they believe is cocaine, Whitehorse RCMP spokesman Sgt. John Sutherland said today.

Another small bag of drugs was found on the ground nearby, bringing the total to five grams.

A 46-year-old local man was released on documents for a later court date. He's charged with drug possession.

Meanwhile, staff arrived at Selkirk Elementary School on Lewes Boulevard Wednesday morning to discover someone had slipped into the school overnight and written some choice words for a teacher on the blackboard.

It's suspected a key that had been previously lost was used to get into the school. There was no damage to the building, and some loose change was stolen at the same time the message was left on the blackboard.

Meanwhile, police are reminding merchants to be on the lookout for fake money after a cab driver handed one over to the RCMP yesterday. It's not known which passenger passed the bogus $20.

An earlier fake $20-bill had surfaced at a downtown retailer last week.
