Marcellus Jacob - convicted in 2002 of raping a Whitehorse woman at knifepoint over several hours - was re-arrested last night in Surrey, B.C. on a parole violation.
The 26-year-old Jacobs walked away from his halfway house in the province's Lower Mainland on April 1, a day before the end of his seven-year sentence.
"He is in custody and charges are pending," Whitehorse RCMP Sgt. Mark Groves said in an interview early this afternoon.
"We will be seeking remand on him. It's our intention to request further detention."
Groves said the investigation by the Lower Mainland's Integrated Sexual Predator Observation Team led officers to the residence in Surrey, in the Vancouver area.
The residence belonged to someone Jacob knows, he said.
The sergeant said he is not free to reveal the investigative techniques which led officers to the home.
Jacob has a history of parole violations, going back to December 2006, when he was re-arrested after two months during his first stint on day-parole.
He breached again last summer, and then again April 1 when he failed to return to his halfway house.
A warrent for his arrest was issued April 2 by the Correctional Services of Canada.
Jacob was convicted of breaking into a woman's Whitehorse home, where he tortured and raped her for several hours.
Then-territorial court judge Barry Stuart decribed the attack as horribly violent and despicable.
He also found, however, that the territory's justice system and its social safety net failed Jacob by letting him fall through the cracks despite ample evidence of a troubled childhood that never let him go.

Great work... Only on the lam for 15 days - that's not too bad in a jurisdiction as large as the Vancouver area.
