A female pedestrian was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital last night after she was shot at from a moving van near the Yukon Inn on Fourth Avenue.
She was hit once, and is in stable condition at the hospital, according to an RCMP news release issued this morning.
Further details on her injuries were not available from the hospital before press time this afternoon.
Her name was not released.
The 21-year-old woman was walking with a man near the plaza on Fourth Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. when the shots were fired. The man was not injured.
Police say they do not believe the shooting was random.
They’ve released a photo from security camera footage that appears to show a blue van in the Yukon Inn parking lot.
RCMP say they’re still determining the vehicle’s make and model. They have not said whether the shooting occurred in the plaza lot or on the sidewalk.
Kerri Scholz stayed at the Yukon Inn last night with her husband, Paul, in a room near the back.
She told the Star she woke up at about midnight and heard people walking through the hallway outside. But she didn’t hear any gunshots or sirens.
She first learned of the shooting this morning when she checked Facebook.
“I thought, that’s weird, because we’re here and we would have heard something,” Scholz said.
She and her husband checked out at about 8:30 a.m., and saw the front door was blocked off with yellow tape.
One of the outer doors looked like it had been pulled off. But Scholz said she saw no broken glass or bullet holes.
“It looked like somebody had had a scuffle or something because the one door was hanging,” she said.
Scholz asked the receptionist about the shooting and was told someone had been injured.
A posted sign asked guests to exit through the restaurant, which was also blocked off with police tape.
“You actually had to go under the tape to get to your vehicle,” she said. “And then we had to ask the police to let us (drive) out.”
Whitehorse RCMP ask that anyone who sees the suspect vehicle not to approach it, and instead call 911 or 667-5551.

And what kind of "firearm" was used in this so-called "drive-by" shooting (that's what some news accounts are calling it, which is curious since the RCMP are currently leaning towards a "non-random" act)?
A pellet gun? A BB gun? A .22? A high-powered long-rifle? A potatoe gun?

This is just another show of what will happen when law officials don't want to do anything about what they call the little guys when it comes to the drug dealers. I say little or big, get them all of our flipping streets . It's the little ones that are doing this kind of crap cause they are little with I'm a big tough guy drug dealer attitude and let's face it, we all know this was drug related it's a small town. Sad to see that we have the big city issues though!!! Seems deaths and people getting away with it has become the normal here. Soon it will be every man, woman and child for themselves taking the law into their own hands cause the law is definitely not making things right for anyone.

Hey JC...You can cringe all you wish and blab on about whatever you wish, in fact whatever style "you" choose. We still can do that here in Canada so far.
JC I know another JC folks really dig...anywhooo.
It is rhetoric as this... "but it must be said: carrying guns around is not a cure for gun violence, but it will increase the incidence of violent individuals using their guns."
What scares the hell outta me to think folks buy into that crap, which "violent" person were you indoctrinating us with? The violent criminal scumbag?
Or as the anti-gun nutters say "violent gun owner"?
...cuz lemme tell ya if I was in NB when nutcase went off, I would not have been taking "Twitter" shots of a heavily armed slay-master.
Truth be known here in Canada, it would be the only time It would be acceptable.
My opinion is that is a shame, everyone has the right to life.
Not become a stat for scum accomplishments and be drained of your life's blood quite literally.
My Mountie shot? I'll translate for you, clearly you never got it.
If their overlords in Ottawa were not so consuming of re$orceS in performing as I said epic levels of DC from what shills often say "a few bad apples" scattered all over the country. Ever heard of High River AB? The story spun there by the RCMP is wow...I cannot even describe it without a reference to say...Poland in 1940?
I made no reference to M being anything but lacking resources (due to the legal messes in the ranks) we all know the culture department will never get cut, only public safety.
Trust me with the crap that goes on around this new sty, more shiny apples are needed front lines IMHO. How the trash gets taken out I suppose...going back to those pesky choices.
We all make them, and to me matters not who you are...scum shooting at you? You should be able to shoot back, despite those whom choose to be victims and the choices they make. Do you see how this works now JC?
Violent people will use their guns...really? Seems they already do.
The regular non violent ones, they are called the victims.
JC enjoy your choices.

These are the direct result of our finest allowing Alberta hideouts and BC hideouts up here to run rampant as gangsters because this breed of gangster like every gangster feeds off the weak and dependent and victimizes communities until they to are either shot, caught or put away. it's funny how everyone turns a blind eye to the new faces that show up in our cities then allow them to do their deeds and leave. Guess all you human rights huggers should feel real proud these days you've made it so difficult for anyone to do anything that these pieces of crap can walk around and kill people and still we can't do anything to violate their rights. Well I say it's a joke and a shame. Everyone knows what happened and who and you've allowed these creeps to instill fear into you believing that the guys up here are true gangsters when in fact everyone of these guys are PC in prisons across Canada which means they do there time not with real gangsters but rapists and other posers like themselves

Wow, folks. Serious melodrama time. Let's just breathe, aaand...
Frank Michigan: this town is perfectly safe to walk around. You will have a greater chance of slipping and getting a serious injury than being the victim of a crime, violent or otherwise. Stop fearmongering. I have wandered around his town since I was 10, and it's still the same as it ever was.
Josey Wales: I cringe at the thought of you replying with your broken sentences, winding logic and poor logic, but it must be said: carrying guns around is not a cure for gun violence, but it will increase the incidence of violent individuals using their guns instead of whatever else they may have on hand. In any case, there were 3 murders in 2014, and none in the 3 years preceding. Our small population can make the stats look bad, but it is hardly a pandemic.
The accusation to M division is heavy handed and unfair. I will admit: I only saw 10 police cruisers for the first 12 months after I moved back in 2011, and 4 of these were parked doing nothing. But the reality is, Police rarely stop crime. The slogans from elementary school lied. Police investigate crime and prosecute criminals, but hardly ever are police actions preventative. And why would they invest in heavy patrolling anyways? WE HAVE A RELATIVELY LOW CRIME RATE! In all the area that really count, our crime rate is lower than the national average. Our drunk and disorderlies are off the charts, but our violent crime rates are low and our property crime rates are... ok.
Community is the best protection against crime. It's sad to see that more and more people are content to stare out their windows, furrowing their brows at anybody they don't know/like, and complain loudly on how bad everything has gotten when they finally go outside. Brutal.

That armed violence is unacceptable. We don’t want people who would do that in our community. When they are apprehended they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law on all charges, with no consideration for race, social position, or the hardships they endured as children.

Josey Wales input on Trevor(s) the humans on Feb 21, 2015 at 3:34 pm
Hey frank, thanks for the accolades in another story. Re: your post, I kinda agree and kinda do not. I can completely understand why you feel after 20:30 Hrs we should hide from nefarious scumbags in the new sty we used to call our community of Whitehorse..safer that way I suppose?
In regards to "society" not being hard enough, society cannot do squat...courts do.
I'm a member of this society, a seemingly lesser valued one as I'm pigment challenged...but a member none the less.
Believe me frank I do what I can to keep scum from forming in our pond.
Drunks hassling other members of our society, when I see a person obviously uneasy...I intervene. I have stopped 3 folks I can think of from getting the HELL beat outta themselves because I get "interactive" with our many Trevor the humans we have outta their cages, help ol' folks on the ice, my girls really help with getting leashes used with morons without a clue, of course the never ending garbage pick up...hell I do heaps in our community "whilst" we are out and about.
I'd love to get waaaaaaaay more "interactive" and ramp up my hobby...but those pesky laws are really meant to protect criminal scum not our society.
Without a big team as our mounties have, a legislated lack of ability to have "compliance tools", I too may become a stat with no Gladue gibberish to enable me?
I may get shot, stabbed or beat bad myself...could happen?
However the "other" will feel like he/she just tried pulling a salmon out of a grizzly's mouth "whilst" doing so...and will not escape without harm.
I had a bad run in with a really aggressive "panhandler" in front of Mac's not that many years back. Thought to myself "am I going to have beat this "lady"...I did not!
Yes so drunks/beggars cause no problems eh?
So Frank see how society cannot do what they wish, our kangaroo courts do... with their turnstiles that need new bushings every six months from all the frequent fliers through said turnstiles turning those bushings into slag.

Welcome to the new Whitehorse.
People should not be walking on our streets after 10:30 pm. Society has not been tough enough on crime and there are too many people roaming around who may hurt you or someone you know.

Best way to stop a bad guy with a gun? Is of course with a good guy with the same.
But Justine's daddy wished us all victims, so we get to call the police instead?
Awesome, when seconds count they are many minutes away assuming they show at all.
Fear not folks the RCMP with all their cred' have assured us...it was not random.
....nor was Brandy's murder.
....nor was Gord T's murder.
....nor was Gord S's murder.
....we know not if Angels murder was...that animal is still loose...nary a word spoke?
....I cannot recall the older guys name in the village, his murder wasn't random either.
Wow folks I never really had to dig too deep into my memory for those "non random" murders. Any other non random murders I'm missing folks?
It's just there were so many in our sleepy lil' town I cannot keep track of them all.
Oh wait..a few more came to me....
Gee M, that sure is a lot of blood spilled in our swank new sty we used to call Whitehorse.
Maybe if you were not so distracted nationally attempting EPIC levels of damage control and acting as cultural liaison for the Gladue crews you might be able to "actually" patrol this town in an attempt to have less blood spilled?
....never mind rapes, assaults, thieving scumbags, general punk thuggery.
I know even if every apple in M was a shiny one, that you cannot be everywhere at all times...I'll give you that.
But rather than feed off the low hanging fruit, go without the yellow stripes for a walkabout...CCTV the 98 (call it a parking watch)....hang out in the village.
rhetorical... even Stevie Wonder could see the reality race based laws HAVE brought us.
Nehass fear not you too will get you chance soon
