The man killed in a Christmas Day house fire in Pelly Crossing was identified Thursday as 37-year-old Daryl Johnnie.

Coroner Sharon Hanley said autopsy results she received Thursday confirmed the identity of the Pelly Crossing man.

Though the fire's cause is still not certain, no foul play is suspected.

Johnnie likely died of smoke inhalation, she said.

Hanley noted results are not yet available from the blood test taken during the autopsy to determine if there were any contributing factors in the man's death.

The Pelly Crossing volunteer fire department was summoned to the single-storey home on the banks of the Pelly River at 6:45 p.m., though the blaze was fully involved when firefighters arrived a couple of minutes later.

Territorial fire marshall Marty Dobbin said Thursday that because of the intense heat, investigators are not able to determine the cause of the fire nor where in the home it started.

Dobbin and investigators from his office were at the scene Dec. 28 investigating the fire with the local RCMP officers.

'There was too much fire loss to gain any value from removing what was left of the structure and what was left of the contents,' Dobbin said.

It's unknown if the home was outfitted with a working smoke alarm.
