Whitehorse RCMP believe a late-night fight may have resulted in a local teenager being hit by a car Saturday on the Chadburn Lake Road.

Police said today they are investigating a driver who hit a 16-year-old male with his vehicle after leaving a bush party at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

Police received a report of a male being struck by a car near the popular bush party spot known as Twin Fields, according to an RCMP press release. Officers went to the scene and found the young man lying on the road with an apparent broken collarbone.

"Our members provided first aid until EMS (Emergency Medical Services) arrived, and he was taken by ambulance,” spokesman Sgt. Don Rogers said today.

The suspect vehicle, a green 2001 Ford Focus, had left the scene, but police were able to locate the car, driver and passenger based on information from witnesses.

Police seized the vehicle and are investigating two men, one 22 and the other 26 years old, in regards to the incident. No charges have been laid.

"It is believed that there was some kind of altercation at the party which resulted in the youth being hit by a vehicle as it left the party,” Rogers said in the press release. "Alcohol is believed to be a factor for all involved persons.”

The 16-year-old victim was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital, where he was treated for a possible broken collarbone and some lacerations.

He was later released to his parent and taken home.

Police are asking anyone who was present at the bush party and might have evidence to contact them at 667-5555.
