Uncertainty surrounds school bus drivers, vaccine mandate

Confusion is reigning within the Yukon government as to whether school bus drivers are covered in the vaccine mandate.

By Tim Giilck on December 17, 2021

Confusion is reigning within the Yukon government as to whether school bus drivers are covered in the vaccine mandate.

A school bus driver the Star spoke with Tuesday asked why he and his colleagues are exempt from the mandate, which dictates that public service workers must be vaccinated or be placed on unpaid leave.

The mandate also applies to allied workers associated with the government – but the definition there seems to be fuzzier.

Premier Sandy Silver was first asked about the situation on Wednesday during the COVID-19 briefing. At that time, he said he didn’t know the answer to the question.

During an interview with the Star on Thursday, Silver said the situation is being examined by the Department of Education.

He did not provide a definitive answer, although his wording was suggestive that drivers are currently exempt.

This morning, Clarissa Wall, an assistant director with the Department of Education, provided the Star with the following statement via email.

“We are working with the acting chief medical officer of health to clarify the definition around work place or work site as it relates to the scope of school grounds and the ways we use school buses.

“For example, when a bus is used for school trips versus for drop-off and pick-up of students.”

As was the case with Silver, Wall did not directly answer whether school bus drivers fall under the vaccine mandate.

It is unknown as to whether other public service employees are not included in the mandate.

Standard Bus, the company which provides service to schools in the territory, has not returned calls from the Star. An employee with the company said only the general manager is permitted to comment.

Honorable mention goes to the Town of Watson Lake. The TOWL doesn't have a mandate for its workers or any of their buddies that they contract work to, but has a strict mandate prohibiting anyone coming into the rec centre to drop their kids off at hockey. They've called CEMA on single moms.

More Contradictions!? Who saw that coming? Lol
Health and safety?
We can all shop at the same grocery store, Walmart, Canadian tire, gas stations, Sport stores, Electronic stores.
But let's kill our small businesses by keeping over 6000 customers away “for health and safety“ right? Ummmmm…..
well, vaccines work? But they don't work? But let's all get a booster?
It should work this time…. Right…..?
Ummm…………………………..——……..
“Many Years later” life NOT back to normal, cause it's working!!?

Slippery Silver - Do as I say not as I do. I had to get vaccinated to keep my job. I can't afford to lose what I have worked 35 years for. I don't agree with the vaccination mandate as I can still carry the virus and pass it on without even knowing I have it. I stay away from people and certainly don't touch anything without cleaning my hands after.
Nice to know the Lieberals are ruining and dividing our once caring country and community. Way to go Silver and Trudeau. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone regardless of your vaccination Status. I do not and will not discriminate against anyone if you have been vaccinated or not.

Can I please give the Whitehorse Star some serious credit for imaging?
That awesome photo in this article, the SS...is great.

It does speak at least a thousand words with that epic “Deer in the headlights” look.
His, and PM Blackface leadership IS that of a “Deer in the headlights”
Completely clueless to the dangers on the road they have us on.
Folks, entering year THREE of this theatre...brace for impact!

Star...on this topic, our ability to discuss it?
You absolutely are shining bright, and are many light years closer to reality than most media...many, many light years.

Why not just end the mandates? The vaccines don't work. Vaccination status means nothing while objective clinical status means much more.

People who present to the hospital in extremis are not going to do well. People who have multiple comorbidities are not going to do well. Your booster is not going to outweigh your 50+ BMI, hyperlipidemia, sedentary lifestyle, history of heart disease, fatty liver disease or your lungs that are toast from decades of smoking.

Vaccination status makes literally no difference when compared to things like SpO2 on room air at admission, IL-2 levels and other actually relevant criteria.

Yes, I think next we should put the school bus drivers out of work. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good of pharmaceutical company profits.

We did it! We saved the children!

Are you kidding me.. how hard is this to figure out? Don't know what the CMOH has to do with it, it's the government policy they should know it.

Silver has yet to answer regarding the rapid tests so don’t hold out on an answer regarding the bus drivers.

The Pandemic of the Vaccinated is Here.
Mandates are nothing but coercion to get jabbed and have nothing to do with our health.

Reality sucks! on Dec 17, 2021 at 5:08 pm

No jab no cab… No inoculation no public transportation… No dose don’t get close… if you’re not a double-doser you’re vaccination hoser… No soup for you!

We need to make sure that those who do not get their shots are easily identifiable while they are out in public. They should have to wear a symbol… Something to signal their diseased status? Like a scarlet letter or something, maybe…

Ooops…
Looks like this slipped through the cracks..or did it!
Shortage of drivers already before the mandate-

The original mandate is pretty clear - all YG employees and their contractors.
It will be interesting to see how Slippery Sandy wiggles out of this one.

Is YG worried about a public uproar if the mandates cause a driver shortage and kids don't get to school?
And of course it's a busybody crusader who's complaining about his coworkers not being vaccinated.

So let me see if I understand this correctly. If school bus drivers do not need to be vaccinated, and they drive around with many children on board.....why is this happening ? My son lost his job, and yet he works alone at Drury Creek driving a plow truck or a grader. He lives alone at camp in his own trailer. When he comes to town he isolates at home and only goes to town for groceries.....with a mask on. So.....why is he on leave without pay when school bus drivers are working. My son needs his job and needs to have an income! Please make some kind of announcement regarding this confusion!

Silver says, "he didn’t know the answer to the question". Sounds like he's getting Bidenitis. But at least Biden says something, even though its non intelligent.
