A collision on the North Klondike Highway near the Lake Laberge Campground on Tuesday evening has left two men dead, the RCMP said early this afternoon.
Police, Whitehorse Fire, Emergency Medical Services and the Yukon Coroner’s Service all responded to the collision, which occurred just before 6 p.m.
A 81-year-old man was found dead in a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a 52-year-old man was found dead in a Dodge Ram pickup. Both men were the drivers of their vehicles.
The Dodge was on fire when emergency crews arrived. A passerby had pulled a 55-year-old female passenger from the burning truck.
She was assessed by EMS and later transported to Whitehorse General Hospital for further treatment.
A traffic analyst from Yukon RCMP Traffic Services attended. The cause and circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
Both highway lanes were closed from 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. today.
The Department of Highways and Public Works flagpersons stopped traffic on both sides of the affected area for the duration of the highway closure.
The Yukon Coroner’s Service, which is now leading the investigation, told the Star early this afternoon it was not yet in a position to release the victims’ names.

To whom it may concern,
I would like to correct your story on this tragedy. Both the Ibex Fire Department and Hootalinqa Fire Department also responded to this accident. Highways along with assistance from the above fire depts assisted in controlling highway traffic.
Thanks
