The Robert Campbell Highway is closed between Ross River and Watson Lake.

The 1,300-hectare Tuchitua River wildfire has forced the artery’s closure from Kilometre 10, north of Watson Lake, to Kilometre 360, south of Ross River.

The fire is forecast to reach the highway today near its junction with the Nahanni Range Road.

The lightning-caused blaze, reported Tuesday, has grown thanks to hot, dry conditions in the area.

Officials are monitoring the fire’s growth and wildland fire crews are on-site today installing structure protection at nearby sites.

Road will be open tomorrow. Fire burns along or across roads and then keeps going.

Once again the Yukon Government just over-reacts, and closes the roads. For many years we have driven through far, far worse fires (even as recently as the Fox Lake fire, Iron Creek, and Canyon fires, this list goes on and on).
But it let's them look good (?), play the power game, and ask for money.
