At its meeting Monday, city council gave first and second readings to a bylaw that would allow for overnight parking of food trucks in the city parkade across from city hall.

Third and final reading is scheduled for the end of the month.

The city has designated seven sites for food trucks at three locations, and the sites are assigned by lottery.

Overnight parking is allowed at two of the locations, but not in the city parkade at Steele Street and Second Avenue.

“Granting permission for overnight parking at designated sites in public parkades will help balance the city’s ability to manage competing vendors and ensure that rights-of-way and parkades are used for their intended purposes while making better use of them for community activity,” says the administrative report prepared for council.

It says vendors will still be required to cease operations by 11 p.m.

The Yukon need to get with the times, so scared of change. When will the next apartment building going to be built? 50 years from now? if you didn't know, the last one was built 40 years ago. Some facts for anyone who didn't know.
