Three spot-size fires were reported over the weekend in the territory.
Two were discovered in the Dawson City district and one in the Mayo district.
On Saturday afternoon, lightning sparked a fire in the Dawson district along the Peel River, Yukon Wildland Fire Management officials said today.
Fortunately, cooler temperatures and precipitation prevented the fire from growing significantly and no properties are at risk.
On Sunday, two separate fires were found. The first was reported in the Mayo district near Minto Creek at approximately 12:30 p.m. An old dredge caught fire, but low temperatures and precipitation prevented the blaze from spreading into the bush.
Firefighters returned to the site today to further assess the situation.
The second Sunday fire was discovered along the Dempster Highway at kilometre 228 around 1:30 p.m. The blaze was the result of a transport trailer truck catching fire.
It did not spread to the nearby bush. Firefighters did respond and assisted the RCMP in extinguishing the fire.
