Travel rules enforced

Amendments to the Civil Emergency Measures Act (CEMA) now enable RCMP officers to ticket people in violation of the act.

Amendments to the Civil Emergency Measures Act (CEMA) now enable RCMP officers to ticket people in violation of the act.

This applies specifically to travellers from outside the Yukon who are in violation of current travel regulations and restrictions, police said Thursday.

Officers will be visible throughout the territory enforcing these rules, especially in the downtown cores of communities.

“Police will be monitoring for vehicles from outside of Yukon, B.C., N.W.T. and Nunavut that do not have a Yukon Visitor sticker,” police said.

“Anyone in direct violation of the order, found here, may be subject to a $500 fine under the Summary Convictions Act.”

The RCMP are asking that Yukoners continue to contact the territorial government if they want to report potential CEMA infractions.

You can email covid19enforcement@gov.yk.ca or phone the toll-free InfoLine 1-877-374-0425 to report.

As of Wednesday, the territory had issued 149 visitor decals for non-residents.

Who’s bright idea was bubbling with Nunavut? How would we EVER see their plates here? They would have to sea lift their vehicle out and drive all across Canada. If they did do that they would have to Isolate due to being in all those other provinces.

Really Folks, who thinks this crap up. Somebody voted for them. Nobody I know.

"report potential CEMA infractions". Sounds a little Minority Report. If CEMA is renewed for the third quarter of the year, pretty soon we'll all be potential infractors.

@JC. Good to know that if someone commits murder you won't "Rat out" your fellow citizens. My question is why wasn't this fine included in the original legislation, did anyone really believe people were going to follow the law?

How are non residents supposed to know all of our laws?
I am not concerned highly with travellers passing through, stopping to stretch their legs and get resupply. We have made a life of needing them to survive.
But with CERB and the noise of Guaranteed income, we don’t need anyone.
Maybe you don’t, I do, many other businesses do, and aside from the Corporate neck grab of Mom and Pop businesses being shut down, yet they were allowed to remain open during this whole lock down. Shows how we are witnessing a Corporate Take over of Political institutions and our lives.
We’re being transformed into Credit Generators. Business breaking the law not excepting Canadian Cash currency, and demanding we use our Credit Cards. Coles Book store is one for sure, had episode there.
Being disarmed like the Germans and Italians in 1930’s, being segregated by Race, exclusive (inclusive) groups with ideas not structured plans. Hotlines to report your neighbour, now report outsiders who drove down the wrong road.
It’s not about protecting the elders in our circle at all. It’s about control. We’re all being programmed to act like robots. Well you are, I unfortunately can see this and am depressed, it’s sad to watch from the outside, and see you city people give up your freedoms and rights for the false sense of security.
We need to call an election. Enough is enough.

Really? on Aug 15, 2020 at 2:44 pm

To all of you saying that people are snitches for reporting plates, I almost got run down in a construction zone coming back from the Junction by a white suv with Alberta plates. Going about 120km in a construction zone, passing people, tailgating me, and throwing rocks. I called them in. Wonder why they were up here driving like complete d$cks. And up Grey Mountain, you see so many out of town plates. What are they doing up there? Supposed to check in, drive through and not be having a holiday or hike or whatever!! I want to protect the elderly in my circle so I'm quite happy to not have all of the out of towners. Not about being a snitch- follow the COVID- rules set out for the protection of those of us who live here, as we don't have the resources to deal with COVID hospitalizations.

What a ridiculous waste of precious police resources. Out-of-territory travellers will simply leave without paying the fine. As they should.
It is completely unrealistic - to the point of cruel - to expect travellers that are heading to points north/south to not stop in Whitehorse for resupply and repairs.

More virtue-signalling by the Silver gang, to appease the noisy rattling of a minority.

The snitching society. On the road to recovery. There is a clueless pact of weevils on this one.

By the way, I will never rat out my fellow citizen over something like Covid19.

Now the government wants the citizens to be snitches, ratting out our fellow citizens. Welcome to the new world folks. Another sign of the left wing Liberal progressive agenda. As Vladimir Lennon phrased it, "Useful Idiots".

I won't be turning Whitehorse into a Nazi state by squealing. I won't be phoning anyone to report a "suspicious " plate.
